{"id":9,"date":"2016-11-10T09:15:43","date_gmt":"2016-11-10T09:15:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/escience.aip.de\/robo\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2021-02-24T17:15:55","modified_gmt":"2021-02-24T16:15:55","slug":"overview","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bmk10k.aip.de\/","title":{"rendered":"Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 4\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Combining the photometric and astrometric qualities of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zeiss.de\/corporate\/home.html\">Zeiss<\/a> Astro-Topar optical system of the Ballistische Messkammer (BMK75) with a 10k\u00d710k monolithic CCD, provides together a competitive and almost unrivaled product of wide field of view and pixel sampling of 52 square degrees at 2.5 arcsec per pixel. With a fully robotized operation and with the permanent availability of such an instrument it is ideally suited for performing a large stellar-variability survey in the southern&nbsp;hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p>The telescope is operated by AIP robotically at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cerro_Armazones_Observatory\">Cerro Armazones<\/a>, Chile. The German telescope mount was retrofitted at AIP to e.g. account for the additional load of the CCD Dewar. The <a href=\"https:\/\/pepsi.aip.de\/\">PEPSI<\/a> red-spare 10k-CCD and its acquisition system have been adapted for the telescope. A new telescope drive system and control electronics have been installed based on EtherCAT\u2122 technology by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckhoff.de\/\">Beckhoff<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BMK<em>10k<\/em><\/strong> has been deployed to Chile in September 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The two main science projects are the determination of the rotational evolution of open cluster stars, in particular the Ptolemy Cluster Messier 7, and a full variability consensus of the stars in the ESA\/<a href=\"http:\/\/plato-mission.eu\">PLATO2.0<\/a> southern&nbsp;long- duration observing field (SPF).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Combining the photometric and astrometric qualities of the Zeiss Astro-Topar optical system of the Ballistische Messkammer (BMK75) with a 10k\u00d710k monolithic CCD, provides together a competitive and almost unrivaled product of wide field of view and pixel sampling of 52 square degrees at 2.5 arcsec per pixel.
